Even with the most recent loss to Kent State University, the Ball State University men's basketball team has not lost sight of its main goal: the top spot in the MAC standings.
Coach Billy Taylor placed the brunt of the responsibility of leadership onto the shoulders of senior team members Brandon Lampley, Rob Giles and Laron Frazier to guide their younger teammates to a successful game.
"The seniors set the tone and played really competitively," Taylor said.
One factor that played in favor for the Cardinals in Saturday's game was the 22 minutes of game time Al Fisher played because he was not feeling well. The reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Year put up two points of the total 63 points scored by the Golden Flashes.
Even though Fisher's performance did not live up to the hype of being the MAC Player of the Year, that did not stop Kent State coach Geno Ford from saying his team is still better between the two teams.
"Not real tall, not real strong, but overall we're great athletes." Ford said.
Ford also complemented Giles and Lampley on their performances in the game.
Taylor said the Cardinals have to do a better job of protecting their home court.
"It's disappointing to suffer the first home MAC loss, but you have to be able to defend your home to win the MAC," Taylor said.
Still on top at No. 1 in the MAC West Division with seven more conference games left in the season, the Cardinals will come off the 56-63 loss to Kent State with a game against the University of Akron on Wednesday.
