The 1988-89 Ball State University men's basketball team will be featured for its 20th anniversary as part of the athletics department's annual Men's Basketball Alumni Reunion Weekend on Saturday.
Members of Ball State men's basketball from 1960 through 2008 will attend the reunion weekend, Ball State announced today.The former players will attend a pregame reception before the men's basketball team's game against Tennessee Tech University on Saturday as the featured guests. Cardinal Varsity Club members who qualify for the Cardinal Room are invited to attend the event, which will last from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cardinal Room.
The 1988-89 team will then be honored and the other former players will be recognized before the 2 p.m. tipoff.
There will also be an open gym from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Worthen Arena Saturday for the former players. The open gym will be followed by a social from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Damon's in Muncie. The social is open to all fans.
The 1988-89 team had a 29-3 record and 14-2 Mid-American Conference record under coach Rick Majerus. The Cardinals won the MAC Championship and the MAC Tournament.Ball State, the No. 8 seed, beat Pittsburgh in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 68-64. The Cardinals then lost to No. 1 seed Illinois 72-60 in the second round.
