LaFollette stinks after sewer backup

LaFollette residents woke up to locked bathrooms this morning because of a flooded basement.

Resident Assistant Evan Stall said when he woke up and went to take a shower this morning there was a sign on the bathroom door stating it was closed, and the door was locked.

The smell was bad this morning but lessened after a few hours, Stall said. The concourse smelled better after a few hours but the stairwell still smelled bad, he said.

Jon Lewis, director of dining, said the main sewer was clogged and it caused a backup.

The backup caused dining in the complex to open late, he said. One establishment opened at 11 a.m., another at 12:30 p.m. and Courtside at noon instead of 10, Lewis said.

The backup happened at McKinley Ave. and Riverside Ave. near the Architecture Building, he said.

Lewis said the building was still being cleaned up.

"I don't think there is damage per se," Lewis said. "But there is a lot of cleaning up."
