Greeks recognized at national conference

Last weekend, members from the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils received awards at the Mid-American Greek Council Association in St. Louis.

Jennifer Eakins, PHC vice president of community relations said the conference included leadership, recruitment and risk reduction seminars.

The IFC was recognized in the Midwest region for excelling in the areas of council management and men's recruitment, IFC Vice President of Public Relations Cory Schneider said.

The PHC was recognized in the areas of council management, judicial affairs and women's recruitment. Schneider said this was the first time since 2001 that either the IFC or PHC was recognized in the areas of recruitment.

The greek community as a whole took honors in council management and programming, the Strategic Plan Progress Report, by winning the Best Practice Award, Schneider said.

"We both, PHC and IFC, were very excited and accomplished," Eakins said. "We are looking forward to winning more awards next year."

Each council's 2008 Executive Board worked hard to compile applications portfolios for each award, according to an IFC press release.

The MGCA presents awards to greek councils across the country that meet specific requirements in the eight award fields.
