Don Shondell's granddaughter named volleyball coach at UAB

The granddaughter of a Ball State University Hall of Fame coach will continue the family legacy as a volleyball coach next season.

Lindsay Shondell was hired as a women's volleyball assistant coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Tuesday.

Lindsay Shondell is the granddaughter of Don Shondell - the original Ball State men's volleyball coach who had 769-280-6 career record. She is also the daughter of Purdue University women's volleyball coach Dave Shondell, who played for the Cardinals in the 1970s.

In addition Lindsay Shondell is the niece of Burris High School girl's volleyball coach Steve Shondell and Purdue women's volleyball assistant coach John Shondell. Both her uncles were also all-conference setters for Ball State during their college careers.

This is the third college Lindsay Shondell has coached at in the last three seasons. The Muncie native was an assistant coach at Mississippi State University last season and an assistant coach at Samford University in 2007.
