Students interested in running in the Student Government Association election have until Sunday at 5 p.m. to turn in an election packet, Elections Chair Marco Pretell-Vazquez said.
The SGA election ballot is scheduled to be finalized next Monday. According to the election code, since no slate met the requirements to run at the first nomination convention Monday, students have until the ballot is released to enter their candidacy.
Pretell-Vazquez said the Elections Board met at about 11 p.m. Monday to discuss the issue. A second nomination convention will still happen Thursday at 7 p.m., however; only slates that turn in their election packets by the convention will be able to campaign right away. Slates that turn in their packets after the convention and before 5 p.m. Sunday must wait until Monday at 9 a.m. when the ballot is released to begin campaigning.
The Elections Board did not approve the one slate that applied for candidacy at Monday's nomination convention. The board said all of the 400 required student signatures were not verifiable.
The board said Monday that if one slate applies at Thursday's convention an open forum will follow so students can ask the slate questions. If more than one slate applies at the convention a debate will follow.
