Chili Bowl starts today in Atrium

The Ball State University Clay Guild is providing an another option to students who want to eat in the Atrium today.

The organization will offer three types of chili served in clay bowls made by the guild.

The Chili Bowl event will take place in the Atrium from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., supplying students with their choice of standard, vegetarian or white chicken chili as an alternative to typical Atrium lunch options.

For $7 students will be able to purchase chili and a small drink with their Ball State meal cards, while only having to spend an additional five cents than the pre-set lunch amount.

The fee includes the meal as well as the individually created bowls that the students can keep for their own personal use.

The first half of the proceeds will go to the Muncie Mission, Second Harvest and the Breast Cancer Research Center. The second half will go toward funds for visiting artist lectures for campus art students.

Ted Neal, faculty adviser for the guild, said the Chili Bowl has been an annual occurrence at the university and something that he and the guild members spend months preparing for.

Tim Compton, undergraduate co-president for the club, said the members of the guild have been preparing for this event by throwing clay to make bowls for four to five months now.

He said the guild has made about 500 bowls for the event.
