The untold story of Martin Luther King Jr. is being explored from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Atrium today.
Members of The Ball State Truth Movement are sponsoring the event.
President Tony Farmer said the Truth Movement is a group interested in providing seldom-publicized information and raising questions.
The group's goal is to provide a more accurate portrayal of King and to get people thinking, Farmer said.
One aspect of the event focuses on COINTELPRO, a series of covert operations run by the FBI to protect national security and prevent violence that targeted King.
Copies of COINTELPRO documents that said King was considered a "trouble-maker" and a "threat" who needed to be "neutralized", are on display.
Numerous copies of King's less-known speeches are also available as handouts.
Farmer said traffic through the event has been slower than expected so far, but that he hopes to see it pick up during the afternoon.
He said the people who visited the display were shocked and confused by what they learned.
Free pizza and refreshments are being served.
The day-long event will be followed by an in-depth discussion of the event information at 5:15 p.m. in Art and Journalism Building room 175. Farmer and a panel of guests will talk about the information included in today's event.
