2 slates on ballot for SGA; 3rd slate to reapply

Following a second Student Government Association Nomination Convention, two slates are officially in the running and a third plans to reapply by Sunday.

The Elections Board denied the third slate, Cardinal Coalition, because one member wasn't eligible, SGA President Frank Hood and Elections Chair Marco Pretell-Vazquez said.

Each candidate is required to have completed 45 credit hours and three semesters as a full-time student. One slate member had completed only two semesters as a full-time student and one as a part-time student, Hood said.

This slate member, who the slate would not identify, will be replaced in the next few days, Hood said, so the slate can reapply by the deadline at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Cardinal Coalition includes presidential candidate Kerri Cropper, vice president Michelle Voss, treasurer William Garnes and secretary Damon Clevenger.

The Elections Board accepted applications from two other slates, Cardinal Impact and Cardinal Collaboration, who answered questions from the audience for 10 minutes each.

Cardinal Impact tried to apply for nomination at the first convention Monday but was denied because of problems with the 400 student signatures required in the election packet.

The slate replaced potential treasurer candidate Cody Willis with Nick Turner. Other slate members are president Beth Cahill, vice president Mandy Mills and secretary Carson Lance.

Cardinal Collaboration also was accepted at the convention and includes presidential candidate Nathan Meeks, vice president Alyson Tennant, treasurer Tony Dalesandro and secretary Megan Kirschner.
