FOOTBALL: Love's high school jersey to be retired

Whether No. 22 Ball State University wins or loses the GMAC Bowl on Tuesday, receiver Dante Love already has his postgame plans set for Friday night.

Love will return to his high school, Withrow High School in Cincinnati, where his Withrow football jersey will be retired at halftime of a boy's basketball game, according to a story in Monday's issue of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Love was second all-time in Ball State career receiving yards before the senior suffered a career-ending spinal injury in a game against Indiana University on Sept. 20.

Following the injury, Love was named a Ball State honorary captain and returned to watch the last six Cardinals game from the coaches' press box. He also will be in attendance for Ball State's bowl game against the University of Tulsa at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Mobile, Ala.

Love finished his four-year college career with 199 receptions and 2,778 receiving yards. During his senior season in high school, Love - wearing a No. 5 jersey as opposed to his No. 86 jersey he wore with the Cardinals - was named an all-city quarterback as Withrow reach the Ohio playoffs for the first time in school history.
