FOOTBALL: BSU promotes two coaches to coordinators

After spending the past week hiring assistant coaches from outside his program, Ball State University football coach Stan Parrish found the leaders of his offense and recruiting from within his staff.

Ball State announced Wednesday that Parrish had promoted Eddie Faulkner to offensive coordinator and John Powers to recruiting coordinator. Both men served as assistant coaches last season under former coach Brady Hoke, who left for San Diego State University.

With his promotion, Faulkner takes the role of offensive coordinator that Parrish formerly held. Parrish was the Cardinals' offensive coordinator under Hoke for three seasons.

Faulkner will also serve as Ball State's running backs coach, a position he has held the past four seasons. The former University of Wisconsin tailback also spent the 2002 season as an assistant coach at Anderson University and the 2003 and 2004 seasons as a graduate assistant at Ball State.

Powers will lead the Cardinals recruiting efforts in addition to coaching the tight ends, a position he had last year as well. Powers has coached at Ball State since 2006. He spent his first two seasons as the offensive line coach, and he then coached the offensive tackles and tight ends in 2008.

He also has experience as an assistant coach at Wagner College, Columbia University and Lehigh University. Powers served as the Lehigh recruiting coordinator in 2005 and Columbia's recruiting coordinator from 1997-2000.
