FOOTBALL: Coach is among finalists for national award

In his three years at Ball State University, offensive coordinator Stan Parrish has received accolades for building the Cardinals' offense into one of the most potent in the country.

He might soon get awards for his work, too.

Parrish was named as one of five finalists for the Broyles Award on Tuesday. The award goes to the top assistant coach in college football. The winner will be announced Tuesday during a luncheon banquet in Little Rock, Ark.

Each head coach is allowed to nominate one of his assistant coaches. A panel of nine former college football coaches reviews each nominee.

Parrish, who recruited the Cardinals' quarterback Nate Davis, leads a Ball State offense that ranks first in the Mid-American Conference in scoring [37.7 points per game] and total offense [455.8 yards per game]. The Cardinals rank 15th in the nation in scoring offense and 13th in total offense.
