Kelly Packard signed her first two recruits to national letters of intent as the coach of the Ball State University women's basketball team Wednesday.
The Cardinals added guards Chloe Barnes from Quincy, Ill., and Shanee' Jackson from Hilliard, Ohio, on the first day of the early signing period. Both players will join the team for the 2009-2010 season.
Barnes is a 5-foot-9-inch guard who averaged 16 points and eight rebounds a game as a junior last year. She led her team to a 32-2 overall record and surpassed the 1,000 point mark for her career.
She also plays volleyball for her high school, Quincy Notre Dame, and AAU basketball for the Chicago Hoops Express.
Jackson is a 5-foot-8-inch guard who averaged 12 points, six rebounds and five steals a game as a junior last year.
She also was a state finalist and district champion for her high school track team in the long jump. Jackson also played AAU basketball with the Midwest Xpress.
Two of the three starting guards from this year's Ball State lineup - Porchia Green and Kiley Jarrett - are seniors. The Cardinals have seven guards on their roster this season, including senior Dana Moorman, who is listed as a guard and forward.
