This weekend the Ball State University swimming and diving teams will play host to Grand Valley State University and the University of Findlay in the seventh annual Douglas A. Coers Invitational at Lewellen Pool.
The teams are hoping their 13-day layoff will prove beneficial. Coach Bob Thomas said the men's team has been working hard and will have a good showing at the invitational.
"It's been a tough two weeks," Thomas said. "We've been practicing really hard, but this invitational is a good opportunity for us to swim fast before we go home for Thanksgiving."
Even though both teams are Division II, the Cardinals don't think they are push-overs.
"I think we have a lot of depth and that will really help us," coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said. "Grand Valley State is pretty good, but we field eight divers, and I think they will put us over the top."
Tonight's session of the invitational will begin at 6 p.m. and the Saturday session will start at 9 a.m. The diving will start at 1 p.m. with swimming resuming at 3 p.m.
