FOOTBALL: Cards slip in new BCS Standings

A 15-point win against a last-place team earlier this week was not enough for the Ball State University football team to stay at No. 14 in the new BCS Standings.

The Cardinals (10-0, 6-0 Mid-American Conference) moved down three spots to No. 17 in the standings released Sunday afternoon.

The BCS standings are comprised of the Harris Poll, the Coaches Poll and six computer polls.

For the second-consecutive week, the Cardinals were ranked No. 15 in the Harris Poll and No. 16 in the Coaches Poll. Ball State dropped four spots to No. 19 in the computer polls.

This drop in the computer ranking follows a 31-16 win against Miami University (2-8, 1-5 MAC) on Tuesday. Despite the win, the RedHawks' record affected the Cardinals' strength of schedule in the computer polls.

With this new ranking, the Cardinals are the fifth-highest-ranked non-BCS conference team. No. 14 Brigham Young University (10-1) and No. 16 Texas Christian University (9-2) moved ahead of Ball State, and No. 7 University of Utah (11-0) and No. 9 Boise State University (10-0) maintained their rankings from last week.

No. 15 Michigan State University (9-2) also jumped ahead of the Cardinals.

In addition to the BCS standings, the Cardinals stayed at No. 14 in the Associated Press Poll.

Ball State received 714 votes - 37 more votes than last week. Central Michigan University (8-2, 6-0 MAC) received 13 votes and is listed at No. 29.

The Cardinals and Chippewas will play each other at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Central Michigan.
