WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards unable to capitalize against Bowling Green

The Ball State University women's volleyball team had host Bowling Green State University down to match point twice in Friday night's Mid-American Conference showdown.

Both times, however, the Falcons prevailed and the Cardinals lost 16-25, 25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 17-15.

For Ball State (9-15, 4-5 MAC), mulitple players had career nights.

Freshman setter Brittany McGinnis posted a double-double with a career-high 56 digs - the sixth-highest match total in the MAC this season - and a team-high 20 digs.

Middle blocker Alisha Green totaled a team-high 18 digs with a .229 attack percentage, while sophomore outside hitter Hannah Sullivan had her first career double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs.

Sophomore opposite side attacker Charde' Phillips came back from injury with a career-high 11 kills, while junior opposite side attacker Elaina Kakatolis had 12.

Five Cardinals totaled double-digit digs. Behind McGinnis were freshman defensive specialist Christie Waters with 19 digs, libero Alyssa Rio with 17, freshman defensive specialist Kaylee Schembra with 13 and Sullivan's 11.

For Bowling Green (17-7, 6-3 MAC), senior libero Chelsey Meek broke the NCAA all-time record for consecutive double-digit dig performances with her 81st straight match. She led all players with 25 digs.

Meghan Mohr had 19 kills, while Kendra Halm had 18 kills and a .432 hitting percentage.

The Cardinals travel to 2007 MAC Tournament Champion Miami University Saturday night.
