The Ball State University women's volleyball team upset the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament Champion and current East Division leader Miami University Saturday night at Miami's Millett Hall.
The Cardinals won 26-24, 25-17, 17-15, 11-25, 18-16.
"I think we are just beginning to show how good we're going to be," coach Dave Boos said. "We've been on a steady climb all year, and we're starting to play some really good volleyball. Beating the best team in our conference on their home court shows how much we've grown over the past couple of months."
With the win, Ball State (10-15, 5-5 MAC) secured more MAC victories than it did all of last season with six conference matches and the MAC Tournament still left to play.
Junior middle blocker Alisha Green had a match and career-high 21 kills. Freshman setter Brittany McGinnis had a match-high 48 assists and sophomore libero Alyssa Rio had a team-high 28 digs against Miami.
McGinnis (48 assists and 10 digs) and sophomore outside hitter Hannah Sullivan (10 kills and digs) both had double-doubles on the match, while sophomore middle blocker Charde' Phillips had a career-high 12 kills.
For the RedHawks (14-8, 8-2 MAC), Hallie Hanks led with 15 kills, while Melissa Zenz had a match-high 29 digs.
The Cardinals travel to Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University this weekend for another MAC road trip before capping off the regular season with three straight home matches.
