Police respond to shots fired call south of Village

Muncie and Ball State University police continued to investigate a shooting early Saturday that was south of the Village late Friday, according to the Muncie Police Department.

Officer George Hopper of the Muncie Police said the department received a call about 10:20 p.m. reporting someone had been shot at 202 Dill St.

Hopper would not say how many people were shot or release their names, but he said none of them suffered life-threatening injuries. All victims were taken to Ball Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police have several leads on suspects, Hopper said, but they have made no arrests.

"We do not know about a motive yet," he said. "A general search was done with officers and canines, and no one was found."

Ball State sophomore Kevin Blanchard, who lives next door to the house where police were, said he could not hear shots being fired, but he had music playing loudly.

After police arrived, Blanchard said, he saw two people - one with a bandaged knee - being helped out of the house by paramedics.

Blanchard said he has lived there since the beginning of Fall Semester, and he has never heard any disturbances at the house.

"It's always been a chill place," he said.

Any one with information about the incident can contact Ball State police at 285-1111 or the Muncie Police dispatch at 747-4838.
