Ball State University's women's studies program invited surgical oncologist Robert Goulet to speak on campus to recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Julee Rosser, interim director of the program, said the speech is at 5:15 p.m. in AJ 175 and will focus on breast cancer awareness and prevention. It will be open to the public at no charge.
"He's an excellent speaker," she said. "More than one person has told me that our audience should be in for a treat."
Rosser said she hoped to fill the room to capacity with students, faculty and staff and Muncie community members.
October is a busy month because it's also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The program's goal during the month is to give people as much information as they can. Rosser said students in women's studies have been passing out fliers at the Scramble Light all month, Rosser said.
Junior women's studies major Jessica Imes was the one who coordinated Goulet's campus visit.
Imes said Goulet is a leading expert of breast cancer and has a lot of valuable information to share about prevention and how the cancer affects the body.
Goulet is a professor of surgery and the director of breast surgical oncology at IUPUI and the medical director of the breast care and research center at the Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. He attended The State University of New York.
