University Police Department issued a "friendly reminder" to the Ball State University community to keep an eye on personal belongings Wednesday night.
UPD sent an e-mail warning that four laptop computers were stolen in the past five days.
Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said the department noticed the thefts happened in the same manner, resulting from people leaving the computers unattended in dining halls, study rooms and unlocked dorm rooms.
"We have people out there that are trying to take advantage of circumstances," Burton said.
The e-mail was meant as a reminder to be aware of the surroundings, he said, and not leave expensive items unattended.
