Quiet sobs filled the courtroom as a former Ball State University student was taken into custody after her sentencing hearing Thursday.
Amanda Polson, 20, will spend the next six months in Delaware County Jail, followed by six months of probation, after Judge Robert Barnet Jr. sentenced her.
Polson was arrested in October 2007 after a fight at a party north of Ball State's campus. Polson and four of her friends were arrested on suspicion of attacking a then-Ivy Tech student.
Attorneys argued in court about what exactly happened that night and whether it was an attack or an accident after an argument that resulted in the victim breaking her arm.
Polson was originally charged with battery resulting in a serious bodily injury, a Class C felony with a standard prison sentence of four years.
The charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement to a Class D felony of criminal recklessness resulting in a serious bodily injury.
