Cycling club offers $2 Tune-ups for bikes

The Ball State University Cycling Club will play host to $2 Tune-ups today at the Scramble Light.

Ben Hanus, cycling club president, said the club tries to do this every semester as its fundraiser.

He said people can bring their bikes between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and club members will fix anything they can for $2. People can stay and watch them make repairs so they learn how or they can drop off their bikes and pick them up later, he said.

They will be able to make small repairs to gears, brakes, chains and tires and will offer free air to fill up tires, he said.

If the necessary repairs are too much for the club, he said they will refer the owners to Kirk's Bike Shop.

Hanus said he doesn't think the club will make much money and the main reason it was doing this was to give pointers on upkeep and to teach people that performing routine maintenance on bikes is not as hard as people might think.

"We're doing it not necessarily as a fundraiser," he said. "We're just making it easier for people to ride their bikes."

Hanus said the exposure for the club will help its recruitment and teach younger members how to maintain their bikes as well.
