Author to talk about writing professionally

Ball State University students and Muncie community members will have the opportunity to meet author Bill Barich on Monday when he visits the campus as part of a cross-country tour.

Barich will lead an informal discussion about his writing career on Monday afternoon, followed by a reading and book signing.

The author has written seven books, including "Laughing in the Hills," named one of the 100 best sports books of all time. He worked as a staff writer for The New Yorker for 15 years and also had works published in Esquire, Harper's and Sports' Illustrated, Todd McKinney, professor of English.

After an eight-year stay in Ireland Barich is back in the United States to promote his recent works reflecting European lifestyle. These include "A Fine Place to Daydream: Racehorses, Romance and the Irish" and "A Pint of Plain: How the Irish Pub Lost Its Magic But Conquered the World".

This event is co-sponsored by Creative Writing in the Department of English and The Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry.

Bill Barich will discuss his writing career at 3 p.m. in Robert Bell room 361 and will have a book reading followed by a reception at 7 p.m. in Bracken Library.
