Police continued to search Sunday night for suspects in a shooting that hospitalized three people, including two Ball State University students, according to Muncie Police and Ball State officials.
Nick Serrano, Chadwic Nash - both Ball State students - and Johnnie Fitzgerald were taken to Ball Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds Friday, Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said.
Police responded to a call reporting a shooting at about 10:20 p.m. Friday at 202 N. Dill St. The house sits on the corner of Dill and Washington streets south of the Village.
Officer George Hopper of the Muncie Police Department said all three men suffered gunshot wounds to the legs. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
The men were released from the hospital this weekend, according to Ball Memorial Hospital.
Hopper said the police were following several leads on suspects. The Ball State Police Department is helping with the investigation, he said.
Ball State sophomore Kevin Blanchard said he lived next door to the house where the men were shot. Since Blanchard moved there at the beginning of Fall Semester, he's never heard any disturbances at the house.
"It's always been a chill place," he said.
Proudfoot said, based on information from Muncie police, Ball State administrators didn't lock down campus or send an emergency text notification.
"[Police] did not believe that this was a random act," he said. "At no time did we feel the situation posed a threat to campus, campus activities or the surrounding community."
Hopper said police came to that conclusion after talking to witnesses.
"Through the police presence down there," he said, "I didn't feel anybody [was in danger]."
