SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State opens season with home meet

The Ball State University swimming and diving teams will get their first chance to compete today as the Cardinals play host to their annual Red & White Meet.

The men's and women's teams will take to the waters of the Lewellen Aquatic Center at 7 p.m. for the university's first meet of the 2008-09 season. The Red & White Meet features Ball State athletes competing against one another as a kickoff to their season.

The women's squad returns 21 letterwinners from last year's team. It also added 11 freshmen for this year's squad.

The women's team finished eighth out of eight teams at the Mid-American Conference championships to conclude last season. The men's team also finished last among four teams at the MAC championships last season. The team did beat the University of Evansville, as the MAC joined the Sun Belt for the men's championship meets.
