Two bicycles collided Thursday on McKinley Avenue across from the Art and Journalism Building.
Charles Kleemann, a Ball State University sophomore, was riding north on McKinley and Ben Steinbrunner, a Ball State junior, was crossing the sidewalk when the two ran into each other.
"I was just looking out for cars before I crossed," Steinbrunner said.
Kleemann landed face down tangled in his bicycle until paramedics arrived, witness Joselyn Sands said. Kleemann was put on a stretcher and taken to Ball Memorial Hospital.
University Police Department officer Scott Stafford was first on the scene.
"We can't document this as an accident because there were no motorized vehicles," Stafford said. "You have to slow down riding your bike through campus."
