Residence hall council elections are being held this week on Ball State University's campus.
"Hall council acts as a voice for students living in the residence halls," Matt Bloomingdale, director of Brayton/Clevenger halls, said. "Hall council focuses on issues like floor meetings, dining services and can help to answer other questions from residents."
Bloomingdale said each hall had separate election guidelines to follow. Brayton/Clevenger halls along with other halls within LaFollette Complex set themselves apart from other halls by providing an online link to the ballot, he said.
Sophomore nursing major Leah Ruble, Woodworth Complex's current hall president, said their election process included an interest sheet, application and platform, which is presented at the next hall meeting.
"Lastly voting at the front desk happens for two days and when they are tallied we have a new board," she said.
Junior elementary education and art major Chantel McAhren is running for a spot on Woodworth Complex's hall council for the second year.
"As secretary I would take minutes and distribute them," McAhren said. "I feel strongly about getting more people involved in hall activities."
Studebaker West Complex made the decision to allow three presidents to represent the complex this year. This change was made after the residence hall combined the separate hall councils into one.
Sophomore speech pathology and audiology major Ashley Wurster was first elected as president of Palmer/Davidson halls last semester and is now one of the three representatives.
"I think because of all the upperclassmen in Stu West, we are really set apart from other dorms," she said. "My most memorable accomplishment has been achieving our five S.T.A.R. goals last year for Palmer/Davidson. Our hall went from a one or two hall to a five star hall in a short period of time. We worked hard and had great programs for our residents."
