At first glance, Chris Bauchle, Andy Heck, Kyle Trees and Kyle Martin might appear to fit into the typical young adult male stereotype. They sit in the parking lot of The Launching Pad in the Village, wearing jeans and T-shirts, talking to friends, yelling and making fun of each other while running around the parking lot hitting a beach ball back and forth.
But the quartet who make up the band Same as Sunday (SAS, as it's known to fans) have been playing music all over the Midwest for three years and have learned more in the past year than they ever thought possible.
"We've been having some trouble with the production company," Martin said. "Apparently they don't work well with bands, so we learned our lesson from that; we need to look more into things instead of rushing into them."
The show SAS played at the Launching Pad on Sunday marked the end of their month-long tour. Although most of the experience went well, they also hit some snags along the way.
"One of our huge trials as a band has been on tour," Bauchle said. "We were in the hills of West Virginia, and our transmission blew; $2,700 later we were back on the road but without a whole lot of cash."
The release date for the band's second full-length album was June 6, but due to problems with production, SAS now looks forward to releasing "Anthems from a Standing Eight" in September or October of this year.
"We really wanted to do this one right," Bauchle said. "In the past it's been a minimum budget, just kind of a 'Hey, we should record a CD;' whereas this we did a ton of pre-production and wrote new songs for it."
They're not the only ones excited for the CD's debut. Kaitlyn Meeks, 18, has been a fan of SAS since their inception.
"Chris Bauchle was a senior when I was a sophomore, and he gave me guitar lessons," Meeks said. "He would teach me songs the band was playing, and then me. Chris and Andy Heck started playing for the youth group band. I felt the need to support them by going to shows and liked them."
Not only does the band look forward to releasing their new CD, but they plan to put together press packs to send to record labels and play at Warped Tour 2008. Fans of Same as Sunday can log onto MySpace or register at battleofthebands.com to vote SAS to play at Warped Tour in Indianapolis.
"We're kind of a new genre that's come around recently, so if anyone is into hearing something new, they should come out and see us because we're really fun," Martin said.
