Cleveland picks up Bullington

After the Pittsburgh Pirates designated former Ball State pitching ace Bryan Bullington for assignment, the Cleveland Indians wasted no time picking up the former No. 1 overall draft pick.

Bullington, who was the first pick in the 2002 draft, was claimed on waivers by the Indians last week, according to a press release. Pittsburgh had planned to demote Bullington to its Triple-A affiliate Indianapolis Indians had he cleared waivers.

In 15 starts with Indianapolis this season, Bullington has recorded a 4-6 record with a 5.52 ERA. During short stints with the Pirates in 2005 and 2007, Bullington posted an 0-3 record with a 5.89 ERA. He missed the 2006 season following surgery on his right shoulder.
