WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: BSU gets transfer player

Sullivan comes from University of Houston to play for Cardinals

The Ball State University women's volleyball team learned last week they will have another new face in uniform when next year's season begins this fall.

Hannah Sullivan, who graduated from New Albany High School in southern Indiana, is transferring from the University of Houston. Sullivan played one year for the Cougars, leaving her with three years of eligibility with Ball State.

Houston coach Bill Walton said Sullivan was an important player for the Cougars this past season and would be missed.

Although he said he regrets seeing a talented player leave his team, he said the entire team understood Sullivan's decision to transfer to a school closer to her hometown. Walton said Sullivan handled the situation professionally by keeping the coaching staff informed about her decision to leave the Houston.

Sullivan started 26 of the Cougars' 28 matches this past season and was named to the Conference USA All-freshman Team. She led the team with 40 aces, was second with 304 kills and third with 262 digs.

Sullivan's play comes at an important time for the Ball State team, coming off of a 5-25 season. Sullivan is the fourth transfer player that will be with the team next year, and the Cardinals will return six players from last year's squad. There are also five high school players who have committed to play for the program.

With many new faces on Ball State's roster, coach David Boos said it will be challenging for the players to initially find a rhythm and to be able to play as one unit.

"The biggest challenge for the upcoming year will be to get so many new people to play as a team," Boos said.
