Weather does not stop fair

Organizers are glad annual Garden Fair went well despite rain

Despite the rainy weather, the Minnetrista Center's annual, two-day Garden Fair attracted a crowd.

"It is going very well," Lauren Devine, who was at a Jarden booth, said.

The fair's opening was in conjunction with the opening of the Farmers Market, which will be open all summer on Saturdays.

The Jarden booth did a demonstration Saturday morning where people received free samples of homemade jam. The Jarden Co. also displayed Ball Co. tube-a-ware.

Despite the Saturday morning storms most booths agreed that the biggest turnout was in the morning, although the amount of people in attendance was not known at the time.

Anne Avila, a senior Ball State University student, said she thought better weather conditions Sunday would increase the number of people who came to the event.

Judy Sodders and Yvonne Farling, who came to the Garden Fair in yellow coats, said they enjoyed the fair.

Farling said she attended the event to see the variety of flowers.

Also in attendance was Indiana Public Radio.

"For it raining, it is a very nice crowd," Beck Jefferies, of IPR, said.

The radio station was there giving away listening schedules and trying to get support. The group was giving away "green" bags in exchange for pledges. In addition to flowers the Garden Fair also had lawn decorations displayed.

Sodders said she was satisfied with the event.

"It's a soggy mess," she said, "but we like it."
