Colts bring exhibit, players to Muncie

About 200 fans attend "Make it Personal" tour at city's AAA

The Indianapolis Colts are a favorite around Indiana, but for one fan, they will leave a lasting impression. Ball State University senior Kim True said she soon would be getting a horseshoe tattoo to show how much she likes the Colts.

"You couldn't really ask for a better group of guys," she said. "There's a lot of heart in the [players], and I think all the fans have a lot of faith in them. It's a great organization to back up."

True and about 200 fans showed up to the Colts's "Make it Personal" tour in Muncie on Wednesday at the AAA on North Clara Lane. Fans sought autographs from players, cheerleaders and the mascot "Blue."

Defensive end Jeff Charleston and quarterback Josh Betts represented the players and chatted and posed for photos with fans.

Betts said getting involved with the community was important.

"Not everybody gets a chance to come down to Indianapolis to watch a game," he said. "We really enjoy coming out to meet the fans because it's tough for us because we don't get to see them on a personal basis."

Charleston agreed, saying it's nice to take time out to give back to the fans.

"It's great to go around the state and see all the fans that support us," he said.

While most fans came out wearing blue and white Colts apparel, one fan was spotted wearing a Chicago Bears jersey, drawing looks from Colts fans.

"I was expecting to be razzed," graduate student Travis Richey said. "I did it on purpose, and I seen people pointing fingers, but I got to stay true to my team. The Colts are my second favorite, but I grew up a Bears fan."

The players said they were excited to play at the new Lucas Oil Stadium and hoped it would give fans the same excitement.

"It's first class all the way," Betts said.

In addition to the stops around the state, players also visit hospitals and read to area schools, Betts said.

"Anything we can do to be involved with the community, and we try to give back for what they've given us," Betts said. "These are some of the best fans in the NFL, and we really appreciate what they do."

The Muncie visit was one of 16 stops around the state and was sponsored by Grange Insurance, Meijer, the U.S. Army and Bluegreen Resorts. Fans were encouraged to donate blood as a part of the "Bleed Blue Blood Drive," which was sponsored by the Indiana Blood Center. Many items were given away, from T-shirts to posters, and fans could register for season tickets and visit the "Colts in Motion" traveling history museum.
