BASKETBALL: Basketball team gains new recruits

Ball State University men's basketball coach Billy Taylor announced late last week that he added four recruits to his first recruiting class with the Cardinals.

Taylor, who led the Cardinals to a 6-24 record last year in his first season, welcomed Plymouth High School senior Randy Davis, Michigan City senior Jarrod Jones, Jennings County senior Zach Fields and junior college transfer Brawley Chisholm. The four join three other recruits entering the program for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

Davis, a 5-foot-11-inch guard, finished as the runner-up for the Indiana Mr. Basketball Award, given to the state's top basketball player each year. In his final year, Davis averaged a shade less than 23 points per game and finished as the fifth all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,517 career points.

Jones led his Michigan City team to its first winning season in 11 years with an 11-10 record. As a senior, he averaged almost 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and was an all-state honorable mention.

Fields is a 6-foot-10-inch center who averaged 16.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season at Jennings County High School. He will be the program's tallest player next year.

Chisholm is a 6-foot-2-inch guard who was a sophomore at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. He averaged seven points and 1.7 assists per game last year.
