WOMEN'S GOLF: Cards in 10th of 15 teams after first day

After finishing with the best score at its last two events, the Ball State University women's golf team finds itself in 10th place after the first day at the Indiana Invitational Monday.

The Cardinals are 35-over par and 50 shots behind the leader, Purdue University, after the first two rounds of play, both of which took place Monday. The Boilermakers are the lone team of the 15-team field to shoot below par in the first day of competition.

Kristy O'Connor shot a 74 in both of the rounds Monday for a plus four on the day, which put her at 13th overall and best among the Ball State golfers.

Amy Roberts had the best round for the Cardinals, a 72 in the second round. Combined with her first round score of 77, Roberts is five-over par and tied for 14th overall. Brittany Kelly, the Cardinals' season average leader, is tied for 28th overall with a plus eight. She shot a 75 in the first round and a 77 in the second round.

Paige Esford is tied for 67th after posting a 82 in the first round and a 81 in the second round, to put her at 19-over par. Sarah Windlan is four shots behind Esford and tied for 23rd overall after posting scores of 81 and 86.

Play at the Indiana Invitational begins today at 9 a.m.
