SOFTBALL: Junior wins third pitcher of week honor

For the third time this season, Ball State University junior Tiffany Garofano earned the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

Garofano had an ERA of 0.39 in her three games last week as she compiled a 2-1 record. She struck out 23 while limiting batters to nine hits in her 18 innings on the mound.

Garofano picked up wins against Miami University on Sunday and IUPUI on Wednesday. Against Miami, the pitcher allowed one unearned run in seven innings to lead the Cardinals to a 3-1 victory. She allowed three hits, four walks and struck out eight. She shut out IUPUI and allowed two hits, two walks and struck out two in the 15-0 win.

Garofano was credited with the loss against IPFW on April 8 despite limiting the Mastodons to one run on four hits, no walks and 13 strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Cardinals' junior picked up her first pitcher of the week award Feb. 26 after Ball State's second tournament of the season. She then won the award again March 16. Garofano has won the MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week award more than any other player this season and is tied for the most conference awards in the span.

Overall it is the fifth conference award of the season for Ball State.
