OUR VIEW: Final stretch

AT ISSUE: Tips about how to survive Finals Week

Depending on your major, the best, or worst, week of the semester is about to begin.

While some majors are predominantly project-driven and require assignments due the week before finals, some students are facing a week of rigorous, grueling tests.

For those preparing for tests, we offer observations and experiences for you to acknowledge or disregard. Heed the advice, or laugh at the stories you imagine surrounding each pebble of wisdom.

Either way, you're almost done.

First order of business: Schedule all of your InQsit tests for the beginning of the week. It will get you home, or to the bar, sooner. If you have three finals on one day, it might not be too late reschedule one of them.

Start studying at least the day before the exam; if you try to get a semester's worth of information into a three-hour span before a test you'll likely not know the difference between St. Patrick and Martin Luther.

Check, double check and triple check the time of your exam. It's not a bad idea to verify the location of the test while you are checking the time. Also, remember to set your alarm ... and make sure it has batteries.

Another handy tip we've picked up throughout the years is that your social life can wait. We know it's tempting to go out and celebrate the end of the year with trips to Cheeseburger in Paradise and MoTini's, but hold out just a little bit longer. Friends are there forever, whereas finals are just one week. Granted it could be the worst week of your life thus far, depending on how your work ethic held out when the sun graced Muncie with its presence this spring.

For the graduating seniors, we're not quite sure what to tell you about how to push through your last week at Ball State University. If you come up with pointers, however, feel free to share.

In the grand scheme of things, perhaps the most important piece of advice we could give you, though, is to breathe.

Sit back, close your eyes and just breathe.

We're almost there.
