COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 10 Ball State University men's volleyball team will have to wait at least another year before it wins its next conference championship.
No. 8 Ohio State University swept Ball State 30-19, 30-24, 30-21 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament championship match on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
Ohio State out-hit Ball State .364 to .053 to win its first MIVA championship since 2005.
Buckeye setter Daniel Mathews, who had a match-high 41 assists and was named tournament MVP, said he was surprised Ohio State was able to get the sweep.
"We played our strongest match of the year and for Ball State they weren't at their best," he said.
After setting a career-high 30 kills in the Cardinals semifinals match, outside attacker Patrick Durbin had eight kills and a -.080 attack percentage. In addition, this was the final collegiate match for seniors Dubrin and libero Ian Peckler, who were both named to the All-MIVA Tournment team.
