Middle attacker J.D. Gasparovic was named the 2008 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Freshman of the Year on Wednesday.
Gasparovic had a conference-high 1.46 blocks per game and lead the No. 10 Ball State University men's volleyball team with 121 blocks.
In addition, this is the second consecutive season a Cardinal has won this award. Last season setter Jeff Schmitz was named co-freshman of the year with IPFW's Matt Pliski.
