MEN'S GOLF: Cards travel to Penn State for tournament

In its next-to-last tournament before the Mid-American Conference Championship, the Ball State University men's golf team will travel to University Park, Pa., to compete in the Rutherford Intercollegiate.

Penn State University will play host to the 12-team field at the Penn State Blue Golf Course.

Taking place Saturday and Sunday, the 54-hole tournament will feature four other MAC schools: University of Akron, Miami University, Ohio University and Bowling Green State University. Following the Rutherford Intercollegiate, the Cardinals will play in the MAC Championship tournament, which will take place in Nashport, Ohio, May 2-4.

Ball State enters this weekend's tournament after finishing in the 11th place out of 17 teams at the University of Kentucky Owens/Brewer Invitational earlier this week.

In the tournament, junior Brian Maurer led the Cardinals, shooting a 226 to finish 12th overall out of 94 players. Maurer was the only member of Ball State to place in the tournament's top 45.

Prior to their last invitational, the Cardinals had finished in the top 10 of their last three tournaments, including consecutive seventh-place finishes at the Pinehurst Invitational on March 16 and the Indiana Invitational on March 29.
