Kohl's tourney to be this Saturday

Ball State University's sport administration program will have the Kohl's three-on-three basketball tournament for Muncie Mission Ministries on Saturday at Irving Gym.

Instructor of physical education David Pierce said the money raised will be used to buy bath towels, pillows and bedding for the mission's new, 92-room facility.

Students and faculty can register until 5 p.m. and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, he said. Registration costs $15 per team.

Pierce said 14 teams of a maximum 32 had registered as of Thursday afternoon.

Every team is guaranteed at least two games in the tournament, he said.

A football signed by Ball State football coach Brady Hoke, a jersey signed by Indiana Pacers player Jermaine O'Neal and another jersey signed by former Ball State basketball player Bonzi Wells will be raffled off during the tournament. Participants can purchase raffle tickets for $5 or three for $10, Pierce said.

The tournament is being put on by students in seminar in event and facility management issues classes, he said. Every semester students are required to run an event to gain experience dealing with the basics of running a sporting event, he said.
