After nine tries the Ball State University gymnastics team picked up its first victory this season. The Cardinals finished second in a three-team competition to earn the win.
Two weekends ago, the Cardinals traveled to the University Illinois-Chicago to compete against the Flames and Missouri State University. With a score of 193.175 the Cardinals squeaked by the hosts who scored 193.050.
The score trounced the former season high for Ball State of 189.800.
Junior Cobie Zuk shined in the meet for Ball State. She scored a personal best and won the bars event with a 9.750. She also set a career high on the vault with a 9.700, which placed her seventh in the three-team meet.
Zuk's performance's on all four events earned her second place in the all-around competition with a score 38.425, also a personal best.
The Cardinals followed up their season-best performance at Illinois-Chicago with a 191.150 showing against Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan University. Despite the score, the Cardinals lost the meet as the Chippewas scored 192.150. While senior Erica Gilkerson and sophomore Bibiana Rodriguez turned in good scores on the vault and bars, respectively, it was once again Zuk who shined.
She set a career high with 9.800 on the floor and beat all competitors with a 38.125 in the all-around.
