WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinal tries to make national team

Even though she has yet to suit up as a Cardinal, Ball State University women's volleyball player Alisha Green will try to represent her school on the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team.

Beginning Friday, the 6-foot 2-inch Green, who transferred to Ball State this semester, will be one of 114 players from around the country trying to make the national team.

"I am excited about the opportunity to play with the gifted and talented players who are going to be at the tryouts," said Green in a press release. "It has always been my dream to be part of the national team program. It will be exciting to see how I compare with some of the players who have been in the program for several years."

The tryouts will last for three days. The tryouts are an opportunity for prospective athletes to show their potential for the national team as well as the Olympic team and A2 program.

Ball State coach Dave Boos said it is an opportunity for Green to continue improving as a volleyball player.

"This is an exciting opportunity for Alisha and her development as an athlete," Boos said in the press release. "This will allow her to see the next level of competition. She will be playing against young women who are as athletic and physical as she is. I look for this experience to challenge her as a player and to motivate her on her path to becoming a better athlete when she returns to Ball State."

Green transferred from the University of Tampa, which is a NCAA Division II program. Last year she was named to the AVCA All-American Third-Team as she compiled 422 kills and a .395 attacking percentage.
