TRACK AND FIELD: Runner earns national academic award

The Ball State University cross country team and sophomore Ali Bishel received honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team on Tuesday.

Bishel qualified as an individual by carrying at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and completing a minimum 24 semester hours through the 2007 fall term. She also met the athletics requirement of finishing in the top 15 runners or top 10 percent of finishers at her NCAA regional meet.

Bishel finished seventh with a time of 21:00 at the 2007 NCAA Great Lakes Regionals before placing 52nd at the NCAA Championships. She is one of 91 female student-athletes nationally to receive the honor.

As a team, Ball State was received the award by compiling a team score at its NCAA Regional Meet and holding a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average. The Cardinals were ranked 12th nationally of 325 Division 1 women's programs with an overall team GPA of 3.62.
