SOFTBALL: Cardinals earn pair of MAC West honors

The Ball State University softball team swept the Mid-American Conference West Division awards this week.

The conference announced Wednesday that junior Tiffany Garofano earned the pitcher of the week award and senior Amanda Pick won the player of the week award.

Garofano, who transferred to Ball State from Eastern Arizona College, went 1-1 at the Panera Bread Tournament last weekend at Chattanooga, Tenn. She struck out 21 batters on the weekending, including a career-high 12 in a 2-1 win against St. Francis University. Overall, she pitched 14 innings and allowed four runs.

Pick, who plays first base, had two doubles, two home runs and five RBIs last weekend. She had a .429 batting average and a slugging percentage better than 1.000 on the weekend.

Coming off the 4-1 weekend at the Panera Bread Tournament, the Cardinals next play this weekend at the UT-Martin Tournament.
