Feelings of joy and sorrow resonated through the Ball State University Student Government Association as senators had their last formal meeting of the legislative term Wednesday.
Senators, caucus chairpersons and committee leaders thanked and congratulated everyone on the work they have done this year.
Credentials Board Chairwoman Mandy Mills said she was a little disappointed it was not a full senate this semester, but she was still happy with the results.
"Everyone did awesome work, stepped up and got things accomplished," Mills said. "We might have had a smaller number of senators, but more things have gotten done."
President Pro-Tempore Kyle Ellis said Mills stole his thunder as he addressed Student Senate after her, but he still praised the senators' work.
"Not only has this been a productive senate, but in the three years I've been here this is the youngest senate," Ellis said. "It makes me assured that the future of this campus will be well off and in good hands."
The entire U.N.I.T.E.D. Initiative slate also thanked the senators for their hard work and dedication with working on the slate's platform items.
"We could not have done it without you," Vice President Jamie Manuel said.
Before the thanks, senators spent the first 45 minutes of the meeting listening to Andrews-Albritton '08 and Campus Alliance speak about their slates and platforms. The two slates had 10 minutes to address SGA and then a five minute question and answer session. Because senators had more questions than time allotted, 10 more minutes were given to each slate for further questioning.
After the slates addressed the senators, caucus and committees met in their groups for the last time.
Senators also passed the final legislation of the term, SR-02-08. Ellis and Secretary of Diversity Manda Ostoich wrote the resolution asking for a diversity statement to be included on all course syllabi.
SR-02-08 will now go through the University Governance System, which has the task of deciding how that statement will read.
