More than seven months before the events they plan, the Homecoming Steering Committee was appointed.
Michele Johnson, director of alumni special events, said after an application and interview process she and other committee advisers chose the 16 members of the 2008 committee.
General Chairwoman Alexandra Garritano said she was involved in the decision of who to appoint this year.
The application process was open to students of all standings and majors, she said.
Garritano and advisers tried to match committee positions with students' interests, best abilities and majors.
The members were notified by Monday of their new positions, she said.
Publicity Chairwoman Jennifer Regnier said she is excited for her first year on the committee.
"I'm more than honored to be on the committee because it puts me in a position to bring students, faculty and staff together to celebrate," she said.
Garritano said this was her second year on the committee and her first year serving as general chair.
"I absolutely love homecoming and I could not be more excited to do it again," she said. "This year I think I can share my experience with new members and have more of a hand in things."
Johnson said committee members started planning in March for Homecoming Week, which is usually in October.
Garritano said they started so early because the planning process was more complicated than some people realized.
The committee will discuss which events will be a part of Homecoming Week at their first meeting on March 1, she said.
"There's definitely a lot that goes into it," Garritano said. "We don't start implementing our plans until much later in the year."
Regnier said she expected planning for the week of events would be a lot of hard work.
"In the end it will be very rewarding for all the effort," she said. "What motivates me most is seeing results and Homecoming is the ultimate result."
