BSU to start sexual assault awareness

Presentation canceled; rest of week continues

Inclement weather caused a last-minute cancellation of the Sexual Assault Awareness Week keynote event for the second year in a row.

Lee VanDonselaar, a member of the Ball State University Counseling Center's sexual assault team, sent an e-mail Monday notifying students of the cancellation of "Sex Signals," the week's keynote presentation.

Catharsis Productions, an Illinois-based company that presents lectures on college campuses around the country, describes "Sex Signals" as "a unique combination of improvisational comedy, education and audience participation," according to its Web site.

The two-person show "provides a provocative look at the issues of dating, sex and ultimately acquaintance rape on college campuses," according to the Web site.

Sexual assault team member Erin Snyder said the week's activities encouraged students to explore and build healthy interactions and relationships on college campuses.

In addition to "Sex Signals," there will be presentations about topics such as male rape, same-sex assault and the prevalence of stalking, Snyder said.

Jenelle Boo, doctoral student in the Department of Counseling Psychology, said a wall of healing would be on display in the Atrium until Thursday.
