SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State wins meet for 2nd time in a row

Men's wins 6 events; women's wins 5 events in two-day invitational

For the second consecutive week, the Ball State University swimming and diving teams won an invitational.

The Cardinals' men's and women's teams won the two-day House of Champions Invitational Friday and Saturday.

The men's team won with a score of 783 while the women's team won with a score of 795.

The House of Champions was the second two-day invitational of the Cardinals' season, along with last week's Doug Coers Invitational. Ball State's men's and women's teams won both meets.

This weekend, the Cardinals won 11 of the 40 events. The Ball State women won five of the 20 women's events while the men won six events, including one relay.

For the men, senior Ryan Franklin won two events, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke.

Junior Kyle Hembree won the 400-yard individual medley, sophomore Jacob Morris won the 100-yard butterfly and sophomore Tyler Dixon won the 200-yard backstroke.

The Ball State "A" relay team of Dixon, Franklin, Morris and sophomore Ben Battjes won the 400-yard medley relay.

The women's team had two athletes take multiple titles. Sophomore Lisa Maertin won the one-meter diving and three-meter diving and sophomore Mary Ehresman won the 400-yard individual medley and the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Junior Lauren Harger won the 100-yard breaststroke.

In the women's competition, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay finished second with 763 points, the University of Northern Colorado finished with 564 points and Western Illinois University finished with 451 points. The University of Indianapolis finished fifth with 309 points, IUPUI finished with 238 points, Eastern Illinois University finished with 198 and Butler University rounded out the field with 143 points.

Green Bay's men also finished second with 635.5 points and Indianapolis finished third with 620.5 points. Western Illinois finished fourth with 436 points, IUPUI finished with 396 points and Eastern Illinois finished last with 361 points.

The Cardinals next meet is at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. It is Ball State's final meet until Jan. 8.
