WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State loses to Indiana after big early lead

Lacking a sense of urgency until late in the second half, Ball State women's basketball team lost its second game of the season Saturday night 76-71 to Indiana University.

The Cardinals used a 20-4 run to take its biggest lead of the game, a 33-17 advantage with 6:38 remaining in the first half. However, the Hoosiers outscored Ball State 19-5 in the last six and a half minutesto close Ball State's lead to 38-36 at the end of the first half.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first 10 minutes of the second half and were tied at 50 apiece midway through the final 20 minutes. Indiana slowly pulled away to its biggest lead of the night at 69-59 with 1:22 left in regulation before Ball State closed the gap to the final score.

"I'm disappointed because we had a chance [to win]," Cardinals coach Tracy Roller said in her opening statement after the game. "[Indiana] executed off of every single one of our mental breakdowns, so we've got to get mentally more consistent. We know we had them, and that's the hard part about it.
