SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards travel for MAC meets

Ball State men's team competes for 1st time in almost a month

For the first time this season, the Ball State University swimming and diving team will travel for a Mid-American Conference event.

Last weekend the women's team began its MAC season with a loss to the University of Toledo and a win against Bowling Green State University at home.

The Cardinals will continue their season when they travel to compete against the University of Akron today and the University at Buffalo Saturday.

The men's team will not compete Friday and will have its first MAC meet Saturday at Buffalo.

Last year Buffalo finished fourth at the MAC championships and Ball State finished fifth.

For the women's last year, Akron finished fifth at the MAC championships and Buffalo finished eighth. The Cardinals finished seventh at the meet.

The men's team has not competed since Oct. 12, against Eastern Illinois University. The Cardinals won the event 139 to 94.

The men's team had wins from swimmers including junior Kyle Hembree who won the 1,000 yard freestyle and junior Mark Augustyn who won the 200 yard freestyle at the meet.

For the women's last weekend, senior Addison Del Rio and freshman Maria Gramelspacher each won three events.
